Governance
Dorado Academy is a non-profit corporation
established under the laws of Puerto Rico to
operate a private, college-prep, non-profit,
non-sectarian institution of the highest
academic standards. It is the function of
the Board to set general school policy and,
within the framework of the Puerto Rico
Board of Education regulations, to establish
guidelines that will ensure the proper
administration of this school's program.
The Board of Trustees have the ultimate
responsibility for preparing a clear
statement of the school's philosophy and
objective. The board is responsible for the
appointment
of the Head of School (Headmaster). The
Board has final authority governing all
aspects of the school's existence such as:

Educational and Academic Policies

Long-range Planning and Financing
-
Public Relations and Publicity
-
Securing Financial Support
Members of the Board of Trustees must be
parents of children studying at Dorado
Academy and must be legal residents of
Puerto Rico, except those elected as
honorary
members. Honorary members will have the
right to expression, but may not vote.
THE HEAD OF SCHOOL (Headmaster)
is responsible for carrying out he school's
mission. The Headmaster works in partnership
with the Board to establish and refine the
school's mission and articulates the mission
to all constituencies. The Headmaster is
responsible for making all daily
administrative operational decisions and
appointments of
the school's faculty and staff.
The Headmaster is supported by two
Principals, one for the elementary
school (prek-5th) and one for the middle &
high schools (6th-12th). The Principals are
responsible for
the overall supervision of the academic,
extra-curricular and disciplinary programs.
The Registrar is
responsible for the admissions process and
all student files pertaining to grades,
transcripts, and official documents.
The Administrative Coordinator
is responsible for the financial management
of the school. The Administrative
Coordinator supervises accounting office
personnel, procedures
and supervises the purchasing for the entire
school.
The Guidance Program has
two guidance counselors, one for the
elementary school and one for the middle &
high schools who also acts as the college
advisor.
The thirteen School Board Trustees are
elected for a two or
three year term.
8 are elected by the General Parent
Assembly
1 shall be elected President of the
Parent/Teacher Association (PTA)
4 are appointed by the Board of Trustees
once it is constituted.
Members of the community are invited and
encouraged to attend public meetings of the
School Board to observe its deliberations.
REGULAR BUSINESS AND SPECIAL
MEETINGS
The Board holds MONTHLY business meetings at
7:00 p.m.
Dates will be announced as scheduled.
WORK SESSIONS
Committee work sessions of the Board are
held to examine subjects in greater depth
than is possible during business meetings.
No official action is taken by the Board at
work sessions.

Dorado Academy members who want to present
their views to the School Board may submit
