At
Dorado Academy homework is an
important part of every child's
education. Homework gradually begins
in 1st grade and continues to
enhance throughout their academic
school years. Assignments at the
lower elementary school levels are
focused on practice, review and
reinforce concepts taught in class.
Assignments at the upper elementary
and middle/high school levels
encourage application of concepts in
situations other than those provided
in the classroom, challenges the
students to discover and research
other applications, and develops
responsibility and independent study
habits.
TIPS:
Send positive messages about
homework. You've heard the
phrase, "Actions speak louder than
words." This is true about home
work. Just saying "Studying is
important," doesn't do the trick.
You have to show interest in your
child's work.
Here are some things to do:
-
Look at your child's
assignments.
-
Find positive things to say.
-
Discuss any problems.
-
Be kind about mistakes.
-
Help you child see that errors
are natural. In fact, they help
us learn.
-
Stay nearby.
-
While your child struggles with
something, offer encouragement
and suggestions, without doing
work for him/her.
Check book bags and
backpacks regularly: Has
your child cleaned out his schoolbag
this week? Developing this habit can
prevent problems, such as forgetting
to get permission slips signed,
memos to parents and other important
information. Suggest that your child
do this each weekend. Give him a
special place to put papers for you.
